Instagram Security Breach

Breaking News…

This week, our friends at Malwarebytes discovered that hackers have stolen the information of 17.5 million Instagram accounts. Complete with usernames, physical addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and more. This data can be abused by cybercriminals to impersonate trusted brands, trick users, and steal their passwords.

Critically, this data is already being offered on the dark web, with individual users also receiving legitimate password reset notifications from Instagram.

We got a request to reset your Instagram password.

What should you do?

Beware of emails and messages that claim to come from Instagram. It is likely they could be sent by malicious hackers trying to trick you into handing over your password. If you’re concerned, sign into your Instagram account and reset your password to a new, strong, unique password.

Check if you have been exposed:

With a free scan from Malwarebytes’ Digital Footprint Portal, you can see if you were included in the Instagram breach. Simply enter the email address you used to register with Instagram and our Digital Footprint scan will report your level of exposure online.

We don’t normally do this…

The link below will allow you to take back control of your digital footprint.

We don’t normally promote anyone else’s solutions but this is a very useful tool. We are not affiliated with Malwarebytes and will not receive monies for advertising this. We do this as part of our fight against the hackers.

Passwords…

Like many, you are probably using the same password for many accounts. If this is the case, we suggest that you change the passwords of all the accounts that use the same password. If we know it, the hackers do too!
